When buying goods or services, Government Buying Standards (GBS) are applied. Where GBS aren't available, international standards are applied and accreditation schemes are used.

Suggested actions

• find out if there are Government Buying Standards for the goods or services you are buying and use them in the procurement process
• if there aren’t any Government Buying Standards for the goods or services you are buying, refer to the international standard ISO 14001:2015
• register for accreditation schemes such as Electronic Product Environment Assessment Tool (EPEAT) or ECMA to confirm compliance
