Our events calendar has been busy this week!
Knowledge sharing webinar - content design
On Tuesday we held our monthly knowledge sharing webinar. The topic was content design, with 23 attendees. CDPS senior content designer Simon Busch began the session with an overview of five content design principles:
Start with user needs.
Use simple words and sentences.
Use language that people use.
Use the active voice and address the user.
Make content accessible to all.
A team from the Office for National Statistics outlined their approach and how they applied content design principles to their work, including their newsletter and census content.
Metrics have showed an impressive increase in user engagement. Watch a recording of this great session.

Communicating Digital Community of Practice
We held our monthly communicating digital community of practice on Wednesday. We had 12 people attend from organisations such as Audit Wales, Y Lab, ProMo Cymru, NHS Wales and WCVA. The session focussed on peer discussions around: Is digital transformation /change happening in your organisation? What is it? Are comms involved, if so to what extent? The conversation was lively and covered the importance of language, cultural challenges of working in the open and putting user needs first.
We live tweeted from the session which captured the points made.

Building Bilingual Services Community of Practice
What an amazing session with Elise Cossette from the Canadian Digital Service.
We have 48 people attend to hear great tips on designing bilingual services, including the importance of translators being involved and understanding the process.
We are considering setting up a community of practice for content design following all the discussions about it this week. If you’re interested - drop us a line.
