Thoughts from the WLGA conference

Back to face to face networking this week and I’ve really missed it. Nothing quite beats being able to chat to people face to face over a cuppa - and this opportunity was provided by the WLGA at their annual conference in Llandudno this week.

We work really closely with the WLGA digital team and it was great to be invited to the launch of their cabinet members digital network. It was lovely to meet cabinet leads with responsibility for digital and to hear their enthusiasm for the network. Rebecca Evans, Minister with responsibility for Local Government and Finance also attended and it was great to catch up with her again. She was housing minister when I worked at Community Housing Cymru and she spoke about the time we asked her to live on benefits for a week and how hard she found it. We reflected on how hard it would be now in the midst of a cost of living crisis.

It was great to attend the plenary sessions and make the connections between various topics and digital. We talk about digital not existing in a vacuum, but being an enabler to help organisations solve problems - and this was evident in the sessions which reflected on the cost of living crisis and Net Zero.

It was great to catch up with old acquaintance such as Clover and Naomi from the WLGA team, meet people I’d only met online (Dilwyn from the WLGA, Neil Prior, an independent councillor from Pembrokeshire and CDPS board member and Suzanne draper from Data Cymru to name a few) and make new contacts relevant to the work of CDPS. Well done to all involved in a great event.

CRM testing

Gemma here! This week I met face-to-face with Ed to plan out some chunky pieces of work that are on the horizon. As comms lead for our CRM I’ve been on a long journey of working out the data that needs capturing, how to access this data and then how to use the system effectively.

I’ll be honest - I know my way around CRM and can access what I need but I haven’t yet shown others. The focus for the next 8 weeks (amongst other things) is to get myself fully up to speed on the very basics so that I can transfer that valuable knowledge to our SLT.
I used Miro to come up with a plan. I also used an OASIS framework to make sure there were clear objectives and metrics I’ll be working towards when supporting SLT to use the CRM system.

What I have found when running tests this week is that we have gaps in data, things such as not having sector / industry information so I’ve been working with our Product manager to iron these things out. It turns out a lot of processes which I would’ve thought were manual can be automated 😄  I’m looking forward to seeing how the next 8 weeks work out - watch this space!
