The Digital Service Standards for Wales are the foundations that every public service being built in Wales should follow, they help us build good services that people want to use.

We maintain, update, and help others understand them.

Everything we build in CDPS needs to follow the standards, below are the standards and how our website work is considering each of them.

The future wellbeing of people in Wales are 7 goals that focus on enhancing Wales for the future generation.

We believe that by having a CDPS website that is simple and easy to use will allow others to build better services, these services will then be used to underpin the 7 goals. People need a simple to use (and find) front door, the website is that front door.

The Welsh language, Cymraeg, is integral to our culture, our heritage, and our daily lives. It’s part of our identity as a nation. We must design services that give Welsh speakers the confidence to use them in Welsh.

The CDPS website will be fully bilingual, with a simple to use interface to swap between English and Welsh. Our goal is for a Welsh reader to want to read our website in Welsh (rather than immediately swapping the language to English).

🔶 Understand users and their needs

User needs are more important than the way an organisation is structured or the technology it currently uses. They are crucial to building something that people will use. Understanding users and their needs leads to better outcomes for a service. Doing first hand research with users reduces the risk of wasting time and money building something that does not get used or creates bigger problems for users.

Any improvements we make to the CDPS website will be based off what our users need. During discovery we identified our users (both internal and external) and started to speak with them to understand how they use our site, and what they need it to do. These conversations with our users will continue during the whole project phases (and after the project closes via our product owner).

🔶 Provide a joined-up experience

Services that are not joined up are difficult for people to use. The services you deliver need to work seamlessly whichever way users access them, so they have a consistent experience. Often the service you offer is linked or connected to other services. We need to ensure that all these services connect and offer a simple experience to our users. Our thinking needs to go wider than just our own service and consider what the overall outcome is the user needs.

The majority of the CDPS website will be a self-contained service, although where it connects to other services, we will ensure its a seamless experience for our users. We shall keep a consistent visual appearance across CDPS services and ensure users can easily move backwards and forwards across them.
